ONE MORE STAR IN THE SKY ( Queen Elizabeth II dies at 96)
Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom died at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on Thursday. The Royal Family, including the monarch's eldest son and heir, Charles, and wife Camilla, Princes Andrew and Edward, as well as the monarch's grandson, Prince William, came to the castle to be informed of her passing.
Charles automatically became the new king. At 73, he will be the oldest monarch to be crowned in British history. The coronation, a symbolic ceremony, must take place within a year. He will use the title Charles III.
health condition
Doctors expressed concern for Queen Elizabeth II's health on Thursday, saying the 96-year-old British monarch should remain under medical supervision.
Britain's longest-reigning sovereign had been suffering from "episodic mobility problems" since late last year, according to Buckingham Palace.
After further assessment this morning, the Queen's doctors are concerned for Her Majesty's health and have recommended that she remain under medical supervision," the palace said in a statement earlier. "The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral," he added.
Last October, Elizabeth spent a night in the hospital and has been forced to scale back her public engagements ever since. On Wednesday, she canceled a virtual meeting with senior ministers after being advised to rest by her doctors.
